Mechanical Design Engineers Required - Mid to Senior Level Positions Available
Flexi Time/ Company Bonus/ Supported Further Qualification Towards Chartered Status
Due to new and emerging projects we require additional experienced Mechanical Design Engineers to assist in the design and development of new components and equipment for Maritime ans sub-sea applications
The companies projects involve the design, testing, construction and on-going
maintenance of complete, complex bespoke systems for a range of marine
applications. Our team are multi-disciplined consisting of mechanical, electrical & software engineers together with supporting technicians, all of whom have broad experience and cross-discipline capability.
An excellent command of written technical English is required for this role.
Demonstrable competence in Autodesk Inventor (or a similar system e.g. SolidWorks) is essential (3D modelling and 2D drawing) encompassing the entire design process from concept development to production drawings.
Essential qualifications are one of the below;
- Time served apprenticeship with relevant industry experience
- HND in Mechanical Engineering with at least 3 years relevant experience
- Honours degree (BSc or BEng) or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
Relevant skills / experience;
This comprises of some (but not all) of the following;
- Using Autodesk Inventor 3D modelling software (or a similar system e.g. SolidWorks) to create complex part assembly models.
- Familiarity with Autodesk Content Centre and Autodesk Vault.
- Ability to verify designs by calculation at both scheme and detail stages using conventional hand calculations or by electronic means.
- An appreciation of engineering stress & strain and the methods used to evaluate stress & strain conditions (either linear or non-linear FEA experience desirable, but
not essential as appropriate training can be provided).
- Producing formal engineering drawings to internationally recognised standards.
- Designing both close-tolerance parts & assemblies and larger fabricated parts & assemblies.
- Working with and designing to engineering design codes (ideally marine classification rules or similar) as well as experience of using international standards (BS, EN, ISO, ASTM, ASME, DEFSTAN, MILSPEC).
- Producing design submittal documentation and associated reports when required in a timely manner.
- Sound understanding of metal fabrication processes (bending, cutting, forming, welding), machining capabilities (lathes, milling machines etc.) and the ability to convert all required manufacturing information into production-ready drawings.
- Good working knowledge of different engineering materials (metals, plastics, composites).
- Understanding of corrosion management in a marine environment.
- Ability to liaise with both clients and suppliers on an individual basis or as part of a wider team of like-minded professionals.
- Chartered status or working towards is desirable but NOT essential.
